ANTARCTIC METEORITE LOCATION AND MAPPING PROJECT (AMLAMP)
EXPLANATORY TEXT

Patuxent Range Introduction

During the 1991-1992 field season a reconnaissance traverse was made through the Patuxent Range of the Pensacola Mountains in search of meteorite concentrations (Harvey and Schutt, 1992). Figure 85 (148 KB JPEG) is a portion of the 1:250000 scale U.S.G.S. Thomas Hills and Pecora Escarpment quadrangles, which covers the Patuxent Range area that was investigated. Isolated finds were made in the vicinity of Lekander Nunatak and Mount Tolchin. Meteorites were found widely scattered over the large bare ice area referred to as the Pauxent Main Icefield. See the Patuxent Range - Main Icefields pages for information on these meteorites. Meteorites were also found on a small, local icefield at Brazitis Nunatak.
