
Our shelter while on the ice are Scott Tents, and the design hasn't changed all that much since Robert Falcon Scott took
them to the pole in 1912. They are about 9 feet on a side at the base and about 12 feet tall. They're stable in 100 kt.
winds and double-walled, and weigh about 75 lbs (part of the reason they're so stable). In fact, they can be quite
comfortable, and if you've got a stove or two going inside, it can be cozy. We use the same stoves to cook, and there's a
chimney at the top to let noxious fumes (of all kinds) out.
