The trip to Antarctica begins with a commercial airline flight to Christchurch, New Zealand. Needless to say, there's a bit of irony involved when a trip to the coldest place on Earth starts at a sub-tropical paradise. While we're in New Zealand, we get outfitted with the clothing necessary for our trip, and usually within a few days we are boarding a plane for Antarctica.
