Tentacle Ridge
Tentacle Ridge (79º37'S 157º15'E) lies along the north margin of the Darwin Glacier (Darwin-Byrd-Figure 1 - 102 KB JPEG) . Interesting bare ice extends for a considerable distance along the south side of the ridge.
During the 2000-2001 field season an ANSMET team, accompanied by two employees of Antarctic Support Associates, made a snowmobile search of the bare ice area from the Darwin Glacier field camp. Two, small L6 CHONDRITE specimens, possibly representing a single meteorite, were recovered. No meteorite concentration was found to be present on this icefield. TEN44-Figure 1 (49 KB JPEG) is an enlarged portion of a satellite image of the area showing the location of the meteorites found during the reconnaissance searches in 2000-2001.
Acknowledgments; The 2000-2001 ANSMET reconnaissance team consisted of Ben Bussey and Ralph Harvey. They were assisted by Jamie Pierce and Kathy Young of Antrarctic Support Associates.
