Gardner Ridge Icefield
Gardner Ridge (86°57'S 148° 24'W) is relatively small nunatak located between the Scott Glacier and a smaller tributary to the northeast, the Klein Glacier. Bare ice of limited extent is exposed southwest of the nunatak. The area is shown in GDR55-Figure 1 (154 KB JPEG), an enlarged portion of the 1:250000 scale U.S.G.S. Mt. Blackburn and Nielsen Plateau quadrangles. GDR55-Figure 2 (23 KB JPEG) is an oblique airphoto looking southwestwards over Gardner Ridge and the Scott Glacier towards Mt. Howe. The Scott Glacier Icefield is in the middle ground.
The Gardner Ridge Icefield was briefly visited by an ANSMET reconnaissance team during the 1998-1999 season. Two specimens were discovered during the search and are given in meteorite listing below.
Acknowledgments; ANSMET members Paul Benoit, Nancy Chabot, Diane Dimassa, Ralph Harvey, Barry Lopez, and John Schutt conducted the reconnaissance searches.
