Sandford Cliffs Icefields
The Sandford Cliffs Icefields are situated along the southeast margin of the Marsh Glacier, in its upper reaches below the Sandford Cliffs. The 1:250000 scale U.S.G.S. Mount Rabot quadrangle covers the area (SAN79-Figure 1 - 67 KB JPEG). Ice patches are present adjacent to the outcrops and peaks around Mt. Wyman and to the northeast. SAN79-Figure 2 - (60 KB JPEG) is an low-resolution ASTER image of the area.
During the 2003-2004 season an ANSMET field party conducted reconnaissance survey of the some of the larger ice patches along the Sandford Cliffs and in the vicinity of Mt. Wyman. Searching was made difficult by the abundant distribution of terrestrial rocks across much of the ice surface. However, a total of 60 meteorite specimens were recovered from two different bare ice sites.
SAN79-Table 1 gives a tabulation of the types of meteorites found at the Sandford Cliffs icefields.
Acknowledgments; The 2003-2004 ANSMET field team consisted of Nancy Chabot, Monika Kress, Gordon Osinski, and John Schutt.
