EXPLANATORY TEXT

Outpost Nunataks

The Outpost Nunataks (75º50'S 158º12'E) are the westernmost nunataks extending out from Griffin Nunatak (ALH-DAV-Figure 1- 46 KB JPEG). The area is covered by the U.S.G.S. 1:250000 scale Mt. Joyce quadrangle.

An ANSMET field party conducted a reconnaissance search through the area in 1980-1981. One meteorite specimen was found in amongst abundant terrestrial rocks littering the ice surface. The approximate location is shown on ALH-DAV-Figure 1 (46 KB JPEG). A portion of the Mt. Joyce map also shows the general vicinity of the find (OTT90-Figure1 - 52K JPEG).

Acknowledgments; John Annexstad,William Cassidy, Harry McSween, Louis Rancitelli, Ludolf Schultz, and John Schutt were members of the 1980-1981 reconnaissance party.
